The ion Platform is a web app where Administrators enroll and manage learners; Learners complete trainings in small groups; and Authors build robust courses.
The three sides of this product brought up unique and interconnected questions, requiring creative solutions.
Group Management: On the left, a list of groups. On the right, a list of ungrouped learners. An admin can click and drag ungrouped learners into an existing group, or click "Group All" to form new groups.
The ion Platform collects a great deal of Learner data. We worked with our CX team to determine what information is essential when rearranging small groups and removing Learners.
Showing a Learner's progress in relative terms is more useful — "Behind" is more meaningful than "Module 2". When displaying information, I always focused on specific use cases.
There are many steps in the enrollment and management process. The strength of our product is knowing when to automate parts of that process, and when to create friction.
This view is used to manage over 6000 learners today. Our CX team no longer has to download spreadsheets of learners to assess changes, saving huge amounts of time.
Course Dashboard: A learner's view of a course they're taking. They can see their group members, downloads and documents, and click a module to keep learning.
The ion Platform puts Learners in charge of nudging each other along. This means choosing to share just enough information about progress, and nothing more.
If a learner is enrolled in multiple courses, it can be challenging to manage multiple due dates. The Schedule page outlines clear next steps across all programs.
We give learners tools to facilitate their own meetings: discussion guides, contact information, due dates, and a randomly-chosen facilitator. Small automations make learning scalable.
Library: An admin's view of all courses in their library.
The course authoring tool offers enough complexity for rich, beautiful courses. But a focused toolset makes the platform more consistent, accessible, and multi-modal.
The ion Platform handles the way content is displayed and formatted, allowing for flexibility and access for all. Authors only need to provide basic content: text, images, audio, and video.
Authors have access to ion.Academy, ion's library of award-winning courses. We are working towards a unified content library, so authors can use our top-notch content in their own courses.
